A Farewell to Greenville Zoo Lion Saied: Remembering a Valiant Animal Companion

A lion at Greenville Zoo succumbs to health problems

One of the Greenville Zoo’s African Lions, Saied, was humanely euthanized at the age of 15 this morning after a battle with multiple health issues. Despite receiving treatment for degenerative joint disease and a spinal neurological issue, recent testing revealed that his conditions had worsened significantly, impacting his quality of life. After discussing his health status among zoo staff, the difficult decision was made to euthanize him.

The zoo has expressed its sadness over the loss of Saied, a cherished member of their community. They thank visitors and animal lovers for their support and understanding during this challenging time. The zoo is now monitoring Saied’s brother Chuma as he adjusts to life without his sibling. Plans are being made for a remembrance ceremony in honor of Saied, and updates will be provided as they become available.
