Engineering the Future: Construction Science Student Jonathan Allbritton’s Experience with Precast Concrete and Museum Design at Mississippi State University

Former BHS Panther Albritton Takes the Lead in MSU Team Exercise for Construction Science Project – Daily Leader

Building construction science major Jonathan Allbritton from Bogue Chitto recently served as a Construction Manager on a team at Mississippi State University. The team worked on a project to create a master plan for a hypothetical cultural campus and design a freestanding museum. This project was part of the College of Architecture, Art, and Design’s Collaborative Studio, led by faculty members Alexis Gregory, Briar Jones, Ryan Ashford, and Jacob Lindley.

Allbritton’s team was one of 13 working on the project this semester. Each team had building construction science students as construction managers and architecture majors as project managers, architects, and project designers. The hypothetical cultural campus would be located next to The Mill Conference Center and include a museum to house the university’s collections.

Throughout the semester, students worked closely with industry professionals to gain valuable insights into how design decisions impact the construction process. This experience helped them understand the importance of collaboration between architects, contractors, and other industry professionals for successful project execution. One key focus area was the use of precast concrete in construction projects. Students learned about the benefits of using precast concrete in museum designs and how it can improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness in construction projects.

At the end of the semester, students presented their work to professors and hypothetical clients. This was the fourth year that the Collaborative Studio has been supported by the PCI Foundation. Through this experience, students gained valuable skills in project management, design thinking
