Hyundai and Kia Shine in Prestigious Vehicle Awards: A Recap of their Wins

Kia EV9 Claims Top Honors as 2024 World Car of the Year and Best Electric Car at New York Auto Show

In recent years, the Hyundai Group has been dominating prestigious vehicle awards, especially in the electric vehicle category. In 2020, Kia won multiple awards at the World Car of the Year (WCOTY) competition, including the overall title with the Telluride, World Performance Car with the EV6 GT, and World Urban Car with the Kia Soul EV. However, in 2021, the group did not win any awards.

This changed in 2022 when Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 won three major titles: World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle, and World Car Design of the Year. The following year in 2023, Ioniq 6 also took home these same awards.

Kia made a strong comeback in 2024 with its new EV9 winning both WCOTY and World Electric Vehicle titles. Meanwhile, Hyundai Ioniq 5 N emerged victorious among performance cars to claim the title of World Performance Car.

The panel of one hundred automotive journalists from 29 countries tested a total of 38 vehicles to determine these winners. To be eligible for entry into this competition, a car must have an annual production exceeding 10,000 units, be available in at least two major global markets
