ISIS-K Threat: Nassau County Authorities on High Alert for ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup Match between India and Pakistan

Official says security remains tight in light of ISIS-K threat against Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup in New York

The ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup match between India and Pakistan at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium is being closely monitored by authorities due to a credible threat from ISIS-K. The threat, which was first received in April, called for a “lone wolf to act out” and referenced a viral video circulating online. On Sunday morning, officials received an additional threat that was more generic but still featured someone standing behind a sporting stadium.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder told CNN that the threat does not specifically target Sunday’s game, but they are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Security surrounding Sunday’s game includes monitoring the fence line, checking cars, and patrolling using horses and drones. The cricket venue will be the safest place in Nassau County on Sunday.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman previously said officials have spent months working on security for the World Cup, describing it as “the Super Bowl on steroids.” This work included coordinated security efforts with federal partners such as the FBI and Department of Homeland Security.
