Scarlett Johansson in discussions for lead role in upcoming ‘Jurassic World’ film

Scarlett Johansson is set to star in Universal’s new Jurassic World movie, which will be released on July 2, 2025. The film will be directed by Gareth Edwards, who took over after David Leitch left the project. Johansson has previously starred as Black Widow in Marvel Studios films and earned two Oscar nominations for her roles in Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit. She is also set to voice a character in Transformers One and appear in an Apple feature alongside Channing Tatum this year.

Jurassic World is a franchise that has been ongoing for 30 years, with Steven Spielberg’s hit film Jurassic Park starting it all in 1993, followed by The Lost World and Jurassic Park III. Universal revived the franchise with Jurassic World in 2015, which grossed $1.67 billion at the box office and was followed by Fallen Kingdom and Dominion. The most recent trilogy of films was led by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard under the direction of filmmaker Colin Trevorrow.
