Solar Eclipse Extravaganza at Kentucky Science Center: A Hands-On Experience of the Cosmos

Special solar eclipse event offered at Kentucky Science Center

In anticipation of the upcoming solar eclipse, the Kentucky Science Center in Louisville will be hosting a special event on April 8 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The center will open its doors to the public and provide free access to all 50,000 square feet of the facility, including special programming throughout its galleries.

During this event, guests will have access to a variety of educational programs that focus on the science behind the eclipse, viewing safety, cultural interpretations of eclipses and constellations, and more. In addition, attendees can create their own pinhole cameras and engage in hands-on activities that teach about gravity and UV rays.

The center will also be distributing a limited number of free eclipse glasses for attendees to use during the partial eclipse. Documentary screenings of Journey to Space 3-D will also be available in the center’s four-story theater, exploring NASA’s Space Shuttle program and other space-related topics.

Kentucky Science Center CEO Mike Norman is excited about this opportunity to engage with guests from the region and share his knowledge about the science behind this natural phenomenon. He explained that this event is made possible in part by a NASA Kentucky Space Grant, which supports research and education initiatives related to space science and technology in Kentucky. The Kentucky Science Center is located at 727 W Main Street and is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., so visitors can come early or stay late to take advantage of all it has to offer during this special event honoring the upcoming solar eclipse.
