Sumter Police Department Offers $5,000 Reward for Info on Vandalism at Patriot Park Sports Complex

Sumter police are investigating more than $100,000 in damages to sports complex

In an effort to identify the person or people responsible for vandalizing a sports complex, causing over $100,000 in damages, the Sumter Police Department is actively working on the case. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest in this case.

The vandalism occurred sometime after the complex closed at 8 p.m. on Sunday and was discovered the following morning at Patriot Park. The damage included graffiti made with black paint that was taken from the park’s storage area. Equipment, electronics, heating and air conditioning units, computers, camera/security systems, concession stand, supplies, and restrooms were all affected by the vandalism.

Officials at Sumter County Government expressed disappointment in the destruction of the facilities at Patriot Park, which hosts numerous sporting events and draws around 350,000 people annually. They vowed to repair and clean up the damage and expressed support for law enforcement’s efforts to find those responsible for the vandalism.
